Summer in Champagny-en-Vanoise
Spend summer in Champagny between the village and Champagny-le-Haut: choose a valley walk, a longer Vanoise hike or a guided mountain activity, with time for Glacialis and the pool.

A summer stay here can be as gentle or as active as you choose. The village is a useful place to settle in, eat and use local facilities; Champagny-le-Haut opens up a different landscape of hamlets, meadows and mountain approaches.
Start with a valley day
Le Bois makes a useful introduction to the upper valley. Combine the Gorzdérés discovery walk with Espace Glacialis when open, leaving time to look around rather than racing to a second trailhead. The centre explains Alpine glaciers through an interactive exhibition.
Farther up the valley, Le Laisonnay is the starting point for the approaches towards Glière and Plaisance when road access permits. Those are separate mountain walks: compare ascent, total return time and the least experienced person’s ability before choosing. The hiking guide sets out the differences.
Choose your bigger outing
| Your group | A useful next step |
|---|---|
| New to the area | A signed valley walk and a cultural stop |
| Regular walkers | A verified refuge approach with enough time to return |
| Interested in technique | A guided climbing or via ferrata session matched to experience |
| Mountain bikers | Lift-assisted descents or the Glière ride |
| Mixed ages or energy | One shared short outing, then separate afternoon options |
The summer gondola can provide a different starting point, but it follows its own calendar. If you plan a lift-assisted walk or bike descent, decide how and when you will descend before going up. Summer lift advice explains the checks that matter.
Where to stay and how to get around
A village stay and an upper-valley stay create different daily journeys. Check the exact address, food arrangements and transport to your chosen starts. If travelling without a car, confirm the summer services you need rather than relying on winter timetables.
Keep the programme flexible
Place your main mountain walk on a day with suitable conditions. Keep the municipal pool, Glacialis or a village day available when you want a gentler pace. Check the summer programme, or compare a day trip farther afield when the valley weather turns. For a first visit, our three-day plan leaves space to make those choices.

Common questions
Do summer walks need the gondola?
Only routes starting at the upper station depend on it. Valley starts at Le Bois or Le Laisonnay have separate road and transport requirements.
What can I do on a rainy day?
Check opening at Espace Glacialis in Le Bois or the municipal pool in the village. Their calendars are seasonal, so confirm a session before travelling.
Where should I stay in summer?
Choose the village for access to its services, or Champagny-le-Haut for an upper-valley stay. Compare transport to the walks and activities you plan most often.
