Winter holidays in Champagny-en-Vanoise
Plan winter in Champagny around your main activity: the village gondola for La Plagne skiing, Champagny-le-Haut for Nordic days, or a mixed stay with indoor visits and winter walks. Each needs its own access and opening checks.

Champagny combines two distinct winter settings: the lower village, around 1,250 m, with gondola access to La Plagne; and Champagny-le-Haut, a valley around 1,500 m with Nordic skiing and winter activities. Choose your base by the days you intend to repeat.
Match your stay to the holiday
| Holiday focus | Base decision | Arrange first |
|---|---|---|
| Alpine ski week | Convenient daily access to the village gondola | Lesson places, suitable pass and hire |
| Nordic week | Reliable access to Le Bois and the upper valley | Nordic conditions, equipment and any instruction |
| Mixed group | Access to village services plus planned valley transport | A separate programme and tickets for non-skiers |
| Short winter break | Minimise collection and transfer friction | Exact arrival, first activity and departure timing |
A property described as being in Champagny may sit in a different hamlet from your activity. Ask for the address and understand the route before booking.
Build variety into the week
Alpine skiing joins La Plagne from the gondola. Choose restricted beginner, La Plagne or wider Paradiski coverage according to lessons and intended routes.
Nordic skiing has its own reception at Le Bois, with prepared tracks for classic and skating. Snowshoeing ranges from upper-valley routes to the gondola-accessed La Rossa outing. Guided sessions can have different departure points, so read the exact booking.
For a lighter day, consider Espace Glacialis in Le Bois or the municipal pool in the village when open. Check the seasonal events programme for village evenings. The ice tower is a specialist option: a guided initiation and autonomous climbing are different access arrangements. Book either through local guided activities or the operator listed for that session.
What to book and what to keep flexible
Reserve accommodation, transport, needed lessons and equipment once your dates are fixed. Keep the longest ski tour and outdoor valley outing movable within the week. A suitable day depends on weather, access and the least confident participant.
Before each outing, check the relevant service: La Plagne lift and piste openings for alpine skiing, the Nordic snow bulletin for tracks, or route and lift notices for snowshoeing. Confirm the transport home as well as the departure.
Pack for both settings
Bring walking footwear for the village and valley, layers for a colder mountain day and the equipment specified by your activity provider. Non-skiers need their own footwear and tickets; an alpine equipment package does not cover every winter activity.

Common questions
Should I stay in Champagny village or Champagny-le-Haut in winter?
Choose the village for repeated alpine gondola access, or compare upper-valley stays for Nordic-focused days. Mixed holidays need a reliable transport plan between the two.
Can I combine alpine and Nordic skiing?
Yes, as separate days with the right equipment and access. Check La Plagne openings and Champagny-le-Haut Nordic conditions independently.
What can we do on a rest day?
Consider the pool, Espace Glacialis or a suitable marked winter outing. Check seasonal hours and conditions before travelling.
